The Nahual Project is a collaboration between UH Cullen College of Engineering professor Jose Luis "Pepe" Contreras-Vidal and this team and Houston artist Geraldina Interiano Wise to create a longitudinal study of how art and science come together in the field of Neuroaesthetics. Through a series of live art performances, the Nahual Team is building an AI model to better understand the creative process. During performances, live brain data becomes a digital mirror image of Wise's artistic vision as she paints. This project is taking a step towards better understanding the capabilities of artificial intelligence and the applications it has in settings of art by considering big questions, including whether a symbiosis of artificial intelligence and neuroengineering can redefine human creativity, as well as whether the data collected can be used to improve traditional art therapy models and promote overall wellbeing. Amos, a member of the team, is developing the Grammar of Sounds for the sonification aspect of the project.
